I first "stumbled into" Quilling in 1994.  Like so many other crafters/artists, I like to give hand made presents to family and friends.  My mother's birthday was coming up and I had been searching through crafting magazines for the perfect pattern for her.  I found directions for a quilled parasol in a Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publication entitled "Victorian Hearts and Flowers to Craft and Treasure". It was exquisite!

After buying the magazine I began searching for the materials to get started.  I could not finding quilling paper locally, so, I tried cutting my own. As you can imagine, hand cutting paper into 1/8 inch wide strips is no easy task.  Discouraged and nearly out of time, I gave up on the parasol and made something else for my mother.

Months later, I found a mail-order supplier from whom I purchased some quilling strips along with a few kits.  Quilling was actually quite simple to do!  My first project turned out beautifully.

I fell in love with Quilling and have been enjoying it ever since.

P.S.

I finally completed that Parasol...in only 6 hours!
